Description

16th century horseman inspired by Erik XIV of Sweden own pen drawings and a documentary i saw the other day about Mars Makalös which they found back in 2011.
For you who don't know it's a ship built by Erik XIV to change the course of warfare and it was probably the biggest ship of its day. Why didn't i draw the ship instead of this doodle you ask? Well ships are hard as fuck to draw, and even harder when they aren't entirely sure how it looked. So you'll have to make do with this cavalryman :D

I also wrote a little poem in honor of the Northern Seven Years' War, not that it's particularly based on the war, but still! Also i tried to write it in 16th century Swedish, which wasn't exactly easy and it's probably grammatically wrong all the way thru but i don't care it was just for fun!

SWEDISH:
Se wårom konungh Ericus skiip benembd Mars Makalös! Ey hafwa menniskior sedt vppå skiip så weldight!
Äro j Tyske och Jutar uti hafvet i nödh, Funne j allenast sorg?
Se ther the swarte ryttarne uti strijdh rijda! Ryttarne rijda Fiendena nidh så them falla i blodh!
Äro j Jutar vppe föör strijdh, Hviljen j ey oss komma an?
Se ther, Swenskarne medh bysszor och werijor! Ganga uti strijdh föör konungh och rike!
Äro j Jutar wäl wäpnade medh weria och sköld, ther vppe på eder borgh?
Se Christus then sköne kiempen gifwa oss modh! Hasta j Jutar, nu blifver wor strijdd hårdh!
Äro j Jutar vppå then sidsta Dagen, slå edra hiertan blodh och icke beck?
Se wårom konungh Ericus rijda medh seegher öfwer thetta slaghfeldt! At wij vnder honom lefwa är glädie!

ENGLISH:
Behold our king Erik's ship named, Mars Makalös! Never have men looked upon a ship so mighty!
Are ye Germans and Jutes out at sea in distress, Do ye only find sorrow?
Behold the black riders tread to war! The horsemen rides the enemy down so they fall in blood!
Are ye Jutes up for a fight, Do ye not want to come at us?
Behold the Swedes with rifles and swords! Marching out to war for king and country!
Are ye Jutes well armed with sword and shield, Up there on your castle?
Behold Christ the fair champion granting us courage! Hasten ye Jutes, now becometh our fight hard!
Are ye Jutes upon the last Day, Beat your heart blood and not pitch?
Behold our king Erik ride with victory over this battlefield! That we beneath him live is joy!

Awesome poem! Old Swedish looks way cooler than Modern Swedish.
