Courtship

Description

Courtship from a time before women showed off their bodies on the internet and before men started to send dickpics. Oh how far we have come!

The couple shown here are dressed in late 17th century fashion. The man is very clearly dressed in 1670-1680's fashion, very much based on the French fashion of that time, he's wearing a Gorget slightly inspired by the one used by officers during the reign of Carl XI of Sweden.
The woman's dress and hair is very much based on a portrait of Beata Elisabet von Königsmarck(upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… ) and it might be a bit too much mid century compared to the cavalier next to her, but i'm not good on spotting the fashion differences in dresses, not yet anyways :)

The city in the background is no other than my hometown Lidköping(upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…), it's based on the engraving from Suecia antiqua et hodierna by Erik Dahlbergh.

Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna is something you should take a look at if you enjoy the 17th century, castles and obviously Sweden. It has been called the Swedish Empire in book form. It's a huge work of engravings(around 353 plates i think.) and it covers a lot of cities and castles from the Swedish empire, it's simply wonderful!

P.S.
The sky looks butt ugly because i tried something i saw in and old engraving and tried to copy it but i failed completely and im afraid my attempt to fix it made it worse. Which pisses me off since i enjoy the couple.

Master Gabbanoche, I must agree that the 17th Century was a very different time and in all honesty I can only say that this is a most excellent image - but I WOULD like to point out that ladies and other females, along with certain males have been flaunting their charms in art (and outside the limits of their clothing) for a VERY long time.

Just look at the statuary of the Ancient Greeks for a start! (or for a slightly more period-appropriate source, the sporty nudes of Master Rembrandt and Michaelangelo).;) (Wink)
